ABOUT ME

Fheadshot

My dream has always been to live in Italy and have a health spa – and here I am in late middle-age finally starting to live my dream!

I think it was Nora Ephron who famously wrote that if you want to be happy, marry an Italian man – well I’m now married to one, a Feldenkrais movement teacher, and we have a small health studio near Bergamo in Northern Italy….so it’s “so far so good”! Check out the website: www.spaziof.org

I’ve always adored mucking about in a kitchen, cooking and experimenting with recipes old and new and to this end travel and food anthropology have always played a large part in my life. I’ve travelled extensively doing freelance cooking and catering (from cramped boat galleys to airplane hangers & rock band tours), made a pilot African food documentary (in Nelson Mandela’s homeland), researched and written recipes for many years for TV cooking programmes and written my own small cookbook.

As a member of The Slow Food Movement here in Italy I now like this idea of ‘slowing down’ and reconnecting to nature, to seasonal and traditional foods . Some say that it’s just my age…..and yes, that’s probably true!…..but still I’m enjoying exploring Italy, it’s food, meeting local farmers and food producers in the nearby mountains and lakes and matching all this wonderful produce with foods and spices from my travels.

I’m planning Italian weekend trips to these same places and including food demonstrations and classes – both traditional and new…..so please watch this space!

  10. This sounds like you had and have an interesting, creative life, following your dreams , so inspiring .

“Freelance cooking/ catering”…sounds cool, also the health studio sounds fantastic . I like the http://www.spaziof.org/en/activity/food-therapy page. especially the terminology “healthy foods using a combination of local ingredients, exotic foods, and spices from around the globe.” as I love spices and I love cooking in the way of “food as medicine” too.

Feldankrais I find is very interesting, but I do not know so much about it, apart from the wikipedia fact-sheets …but I am into Medical Chi Kung, Kundalini Yoga and my own creation of Body “Weight Exercises“ , Acupressure and developed together with my Partner “Healing Health Touch” which integrates also elements of Advanced Bowen Method ….
Wow and I just saw the flotation tank ! That looks like a Samadhi tank ! Awesome ! This was since my teenage on the “bucket list” 😀 No wonder that you are so busy there in your therapy centre. ..sorry for getting so excited here , but I just love it to see when people live and fulfil their dreams 🙂 Thank you for being you 🙂

  11. Thanks for all your lovely comments!….and that’s so great you’re both following your dreams too, sounds like you have a fascinating life! Love the sound of Medical Chi Kung and yes, it’s a Samadhi tank and is slowly getting more & more popular with young Italians from Milano. Keep cooking and so glad you’re a spice lover too!

  12. Ah lovely to find your blog site here after discovering you on Istagram. Wonderful to see all you fabulous pics and now to read that you are married to a Feldenkrais movement teacher which has got to be a huge plus for so many reasons (love Feldenkrais teaching principals as I did a bit of that some time ago) and then to know you better through reading your blog……it’s a real treat for me! Will keep an eye on this blog…….and see if I can glean some recipe tips from you in the process.

    • How great to see you here!….and you’re now inspiring me to get back to work and do some more blogging! I so love doing it but lately I’ve had other commitments. And you’ve done some Feldenkrais too, isn’t that amazing!….Fiorenzo’s a great teacher so am very lucky! Did you take classes or some of the actual teacher-training? Anyway, this is lovely to be back in touch, hope you’re well and hope you try some recipes!! x

    • Ciao cara Leanne – yes I thought it was probably you! I too felt/feel a strong connection when doing the feldenkrais movements…so happy they helped you. Keep in touch and stay well! Fx
