Il Piccolo Vigneto

‘Benvenuto’ and Welcome to ‘Il Piccolo Vigneto‘ or ‘The Small Vineyard’!
Have you ever dreamt of staying in an Italian vineyard?…..watching the sun set over a panoramic landscape of vines and mountains as you sip an ‘aperitivo‘ and plan which Italian restaurant to go to for supper?

Dream no more….. come and actually experience a vineyard holiday in the famous wine area of Barolo in Piedmont, north-west Italy!

Barolo is part of the glorious Langhe region, still relatively unknown and un-spoilt, and is perfect for exploring or just relaxing and soaking up the light, warmth and staggering mountain views that surround you. You can sample some of the best wines that Italy offers and enjoy delicious, authentic Piemontese dishes in hidden gems of restaurants.

Our charming small holiday home consists of 2 newly renovated one-bedroom apartments – each one completely independent – and has wonderful views over the vines to the Maritime Alps. It lies between Barolo and Novello in a small ‘borgata’, or small rural village, completely surrounded by the beautiful UNESCO Langhe vineyards whose grapes produce the world-famous Barolo wine.

The house, which is part of one of these working wineries (owned by the delightful Vietto family for two generations) even has its own tiny vineyard – which you can also see whilst sipping a glass of wine in your bath!

You’ll have the luxury of being able to have a wine-tasting or buy wine right on your doorstep …about a half-minute walk from the house! Here you can meet the whole Vietto family (https://www.vietto.it/) and not only enjoy their warmth, hospitality and extensive knowledge, but also of course their delicious Barolo, Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nas-Cetta wines.

Further afield there are romantic walks among the vines, medieval castles to visit, mysterious truffle hunts to join, colourful local markets to wander in and local bars where you can people-watch over a morning cappuccino or evening aperitivo. Close by there are e-bikes for hire for those who’d like to explore the hills and hazelnut groves of the Alta-Langhe, stopping along the way to sample the organic cheeses and salami.

Whether you drive, walk or bike the area is ideal for exploring. You’re just a few kilometres from the towns of Barolo, Monforte and Alba all famous for their world-class wine, for the special ‘tartufo bianco’ or Alba white truffle, and for their artistic, cultural and gastronomical history – Alba itself was declared a UNESCO City for Gastronomy in 2017.

Since 2014 the wine-producing landscape of Piedmont, comprising the vineyards of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the house is situated in the most important area of “Langa del Barolo” right in the heart of the UNESCO classified “Core One” zone.

If you’d like to travel further afield, the location is ideal for exploring Northern Italy as it’s close to Piedmont’s capital city of Turin, the Ligurian Coast, the Maritime Alps and Lake Maggiore – all renowned for their spectacular scenery, culture and art.
